My Trip to Nayara Bocas del Toro
Public service announcement: you do not have to travel to the Maldives or Bora Bora to experience luxury overwater villas. Nayara Bocas del Toro, the latest addition to the Nayara Resorts family, lies on Panama’s Caribbean coast, and is only a 3-hour flight from Miami!Residing on its own private island within the picturesque Bocas del Toro archipelago, Nayara is a true luxury escape in perfect harmony with nature. And that nature includes three distinct ecosystems, coral reef, mangrove forest and tropical lowland rainforest, creating so much biodiversity that the archipelago is widely known as the Galapagos of the Caribbean.
Now that you have the background, let’s get right to the juicy stuff…
The Overwater Villa
The villa is more than 1,100 square feet (bigger than my apt) and features hand carved Balinese-style tweak wood furnishings throughout. The massive bathroom has beautiful colored tiles that were brought all the way from Indonesia, but the best part is the incredible outdoor terrace. With endless water views, this is the perfect place to relax in total privacy, and did I mention that it comes with its own private plunge pool! From the alfresco terrace, you can literally jump into the water and begin exploring the bay.
Activities On-Property
And when I say explore, I really mean it. There are coral reefs right in the surrounding waters where you can see starfish, sea urchin, manta rays, scores of fish, and even dolphins! But swimming isn’t the only way to explore: you can also snorkel, paddleboard and kayak, all totally free! When you’re not in the water, you can also walk the beautiful gardens, relax on the world’s first ever beach on stilts, and much more! And that’s just what you can do on the property itself, you absolutely must rent a boat and captain to explore the archipelago.
Activities Off-Property
Bar hopping is fun, island hopping is better. With our own private boat and captain/naturalist we went all over the place, from one majestic island beach to another. We explored Dolphin Bay at sunset and saw an entire pod of dolphins numbering in the dozens! We discovered one coral reef after another, and I only wish we had the time to fish, scuba, surf and take advantage of all the other activities this magical place has to offer.
I know I’m leaving out a lot, including the amazing food and beverage options and the fantastic spa offerings (the masseuse literally comes to your villa terrace if requested), but I’d rather keep it short and sweet.
