Setting the Standard: Green Globe Certification
We are thrilled to announce that all three of our Costa Rican properties—Nayara Tented Camp, Nayara Gardens, and Nayara Springs—have received official Green Globe Certification. As one of the industry’s most prestigious international sustainability certifications, the Green Globe seal represents a commitment to meeting the highest standards of eco-consciousness. This achievement reflects decades of work on 44 criteria and 380 indicators, aligned with global frameworks like the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC). To achieve this milestone, we collaborated closely with Green Globe auditors to enhance our existing eco-infrastructure and sustainability initiatives. From preserving the incredible biodiversity to uplifting our local community, this certification is a testament to our dedication to delivering exceptional—and sustainable—guest experiences.
We are proud to share that Nayara Bocas del Toro in Panama already holds Green Globe Certification, and Nayara Alto Atacama in Chile has earned the "S Certification for Sustainable Tourism" from the Chilean government. Together, these accomplishments reinforce our leadership in sustainability and responsible tourism.
A Legacy of Sustainability in Costa Rica
When we opened in Costa Rica’s Arenal Volcano National Park over a decade ago, we set out to redefine luxury travel with a deep respect for the environment. Spanning 30,000 acres of lush rainforest, our properties are home to half of Costa Rica’s bird, mammal, and reptile species, making this region a haven for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.
Over the years, we’ve contributed to the region’s conservation success through efforts like creating a sanctuary for sloths and reforesting lands once cleared for cattle ranching. These initiatives are a cornerstone of our mission to protect the natural beauty that makes Costa Rica so extraordinary.
Raising the Bar for Sustainability
Green Globe Certification isn’t a one-time achievement. It requires annual audits and continuous improvement. We are proud to meet the high standards of Green Globe’s four pillars: sustainable management, social and economic performance, cultural heritage preservation, and environmental stewardship.
Beyond certification, we’re also certified carbon-neutral by Eco Qualis, a third-party sustainability consulting firm. Our Costa Rican resorts are plastic-free, and the majority of our staff comes from the nearby town of La Fortuna. We support our team with free transportation, education on sustainable tourism practices, and access to early childhood education for their families. Recently, we partnered with a local bank to create a housing community for employees, enabling them to purchase homes without a down payment and build equity while maintaining ownership regardless of their employment status.
